JSF Error: JSF1009: Unable to determine FaceServlet mapping for servlet path ..

Rarely encountered error raised in Mojarra implementation in method com.sun.faces.util.Util.getFacesMapping when com.sun.faces.util.Util.getMappingForRequest returns null:
